This is exactly the type of pickup the Pens should be trying to make, even if it doesn't solve their immediate starter problem. It would have been great to at least have a guy like this in WBS to put in rather than Legace who we all knew they wouldnt turn to.
Get him signed, have him start in the minors so he can see a lot of action and bring him in for some spot NHL work this season if he is doing well.
Whether or not he would be interested in the Pens is another thing... on one hand, he could have a very clear path to a full time NHL role by playing this year in WBS, next year as full time backup and then who knows what the starter situation is from there on. On the other hand, the Pens have had terrible team defence over the years and he might be better served trying to get with a team that has a good defensive structure like Vegas if they move on from Fleury. |

RW, with back to back daily blogs, is in fine offseason form...
I cant see how anyone could be against getting a guy like that who would immediately start in AHL. |

Perhaps he views the Pens organization as one that has a currently up in the air goalie situation and saw what (most) everyone saw vs the Isles, as a result thinks he could have legit NHL shot sooner than later. If he's real confident then perhaps he thinks he's the Pens starter next playoffs...

I don’t know what it is with the college goalies. They must just get inflated egos from their relatively meaningless college stats and want guaranteed money or playing time. |

Man, I always joke with the guys I play hockey with that goalies are a different breed of human being hahah....they are just so different than the skaters and runners (ball hockey) I play with. There's more drama and bullpoop with them. A lot of them diva'ish hahah. Some of my close friends are goalies and I say this to their face as well... just for full disclosure Im not back stabbing them hahah |

If this is a potential move to simply provide organizational depth in goal, no problem. It would be worth the investment. However, a guy like this does nothing to cure the veteran goalie need the Pens' have at the NHL level. |

I definitely agree. Right now the Pens have three goalies on NHL contracts: Jarry, DeSmith, and D'Orio. A lot of people don't want to see Jarry back next season. As much as I don't I am not sure what choice they have. Regardless, neither he nor DeSmith are long term solutions as starter. D'Orio is 22 and might be but there are no guarantees.
Unfortunately there are currently not any real standouts in WBS:

They could definitely use help there. Adding to this is the fact that Lagace is a UFA and Larmi a RFA. |

I'd kick the tires on Martin Jones if you retain $2M, he comes with Kane and you kick the tires on Matheson, Jarry and Zucker. - MacPatty
You would take a poopty goalie and a poopty person? |

Honestly, it's not even a joke. They're (frank)ing idiots. Every one of them. Every time we get a sub for our team on our beer league team I'm like why are they all so god damn weird? |

I mean, it was half facetious but despite Kane being a poophead, he can score goals and hit. The Pens have enough good people to overcome one poopty person. |

All the Pens need is a player who will get suspended when they need him in the playoffs.

There is nothing wrong with bringing Jarry back next year. But you must understand what you have and what he is capable of. RW has spent many a blog telling us to put the 3rd pair D men--such as Ceci--in the appropriate role and they are fine. The same is true for goalies, like Jarry.
Sure, Id love to move on from his contract, but his trade value is probably as low as it could get.
As long as everyone recognizes that they need a goalie who can start and win playoff games and series--and that Jarry is NOT that goalie, bringing him back is not an issue.
Now if only they can realize they had NYI beaten--except for the goalie--and thus there is no immediate need to revamp their roster by dumping skill and speed for size and grit like I keep hearing on local radio.... |

There's some odd logic here. You're saying there's nothing wrong with bringing back a goalie that cannot help us win as long as we understand he cannot help us win? |

Pretty sure he’s saying you can keep Jarry but can still need another legit goalie at the same time. Either way you guys are going to suck. |
